What is the Amazon Influencer Program?

The Amazon Influencer Program is, in Amazon’s words, an extension of the Associates program for qualifying social media influencers. Once approved, you get your own page on Amazon, the storefront, at a vanity URL like amazon.com/shop/yourname. You fill it with idea lists, photos and videos of the products you recommend. Pay works similarly to Associates: when someone buys through your content, you earn a commission.

The big difference from plain Associates: as an influencer you can publish content on Amazon itself. Your videos can reach shoppers who have never seen your channel, for example on a product page. Those purchases earn onsite commissions.

Where is the program available?

Amazon’s German help page lists 12 marketplaces: the US, Canada, India, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and Brazil. The lists on different marketplaces’ help pages are not fully consistent, but the US, UK, Canada and Germany are all confirmed on official pages.

Each marketplace is its own program with its own sign-up, store ID, tax and payment details. If you want to upload videos to amazon.com and amazon.co.uk, you set up both separately.

Amazon Influencer Program requirements

You apply with a social media account. Amazon names TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest and Facebook. According to Amazon, the review looks at:

  • the quality of your content,
  • your engagement rate,
  • your follower count.

Amazon does not publish a minimum follower count. Figures you find online are other creators’ experiences, not a rule. If you are not approved, you can reapply later, for example once your account has grown. Amazon’s help pages do not mention a fee for joining.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Use your Associates account or create one. The Influencer Program runs on the same account as Amazon Associates. If you already are an Associate, you apply with that account and store ID.
  2. Apply as an influencer and connect your social account. Pick the account you want to qualify with. Your storefront’s vanity URL is generated from its handle.
  3. Wait for the review. Amazon checks your account and lets you know.
  4. Set up your storefront. Add idea lists, photos and your first videos. See the guide Amazon influencer storefront.

How Amazon influencers earn

When you share your storefront or product links on your channels, the standard Associates rates apply. They depend on the product category. A purchase counts if it happens within 24 hours of the click. More in Influencer Program vs Amazon Associates.

2. Onsite videos and the onsite commission

Videos, photos and idea lists you publish on Amazon may be shown to shoppers across Amazon, including product detail pages, search results and the homepage, according to Amazon. When a shopper clicks your content and buys, you earn the onsite commission. Amazon creates a separate onsite store ID for this, which may start with “onamz”. Onsite rates are their own table. The US table is in the guide Amazon onsite commission.

Amazon’s US help describes the path like this: after 10 of your videos pass moderation and you sign up for onsite commissions, your videos may also appear on product detail pages. Every video is moderated before it goes live.

3. Creator Connections

In Creator Connections, brands offer campaigns, usually with a bonus commission on top of your normal rate. It is officially documented for the US. See Amazon Creator Connections.

Disclosure

In the US, the Associates Operating Agreement requires you to clearly and prominently state: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” This applies to your site and to social media content. Gifted products or paid partnerships need an additional FTC-compliant disclosure such as “#ad” or “#sponsored”. Other marketplaces have their own wording, for example in Germany “Als Amazon-Partner verdiene ich an qualifizierten Verkäufen.”

When Amazon pays

In the US, Amazon pays from $10 by direct deposit or gift certificate and from $100 by check, roughly 60 days after the end of the month. Onsite earnings run under the separate onsite store ID, which needs its own payment and tax details.

What matters in practice

Getting approved is the easy part. Whether a video pays off is decided before you make it, when you pick the product:

  • Is a video possible at all? Not every product accepts influencer videos, and you often only find out once the video is done.
  • How crowded is it? If a product already has many influencer videos, yours is shown less often.
  • What does one sale earn? Onsite rates vary a lot by category. A cheap product in a low-rate category earns a few cents per sale.

Reelgap answers these three questions right on the product page, before you spend time on a video.
